Gee, I haven't typed a post since July! Wow! I didn't even realize how fast summer went by. I've had lots of projects to do while the weather is good here in Michigan. I asked a friend of mine if he would help me paint the trim on our house. He said yes and then when we got started I was washing the trim with high pressure water and sprayed the aluminum siding a little and the paint was just washing off. So that was added to the project. Plus I learned why the paint jobs others would do wouldn't last. Most of the paint was just hovering over the wood and not adhering to it. It looks a lot like someone painted oil over latex at some time in the past. I'm pretty sure I know when that happened. Two of my relatives who were pro painters and my fathers age, painted this house about 30 years ago and I know they were big oil based paint fans. Of course I don't know for sure, but the paint on the trim needs a lot of scraping and prep work. It's taking a lot longer than I expected. Plus my mom has a couple other little things for me to paint too. That's OK, she's my mom.
I've been golfing quite a bit this summer. My golf league met for the last time last Wednesday. It was the first time I golfed on a league. I really enjoyed it. I didn't like the couple of times we golfed in the rain though. I didn't improve my game. I'm driving a heck of a lot better; my short game is almost flawless, and I bought my first putter in my life and forced myself to use it when I wasn't doing so good with it. Now my putting has gotten really good too. 2 puts at most is ideal and I am there on 80% of the holes in an round of 18 holes. I get a lot of 1 put holes since my short game has improved. When I'm next to the green I can place the ball near the hole. Before I was all over the place.
I spent a day repairing some plumbing around here. One leaky drain and 1 sticking faucet. I'm a pretty handy guy.
I bought some new tools as well. I got the stand for my DeWalt miter saw. I finally broke down and bought a cordless drill. The DeWalt 18volt hammer drill in an bundle with a little cordless vacuum. The Vacuum is really cool and very handy, especially for all those paint chips. But the drill is just the best thing since sliced bread. I have a lot of places where I need to remove or install screws. I dreaded pulling out the corded drill for the small jobs and would only do it if I had a big job. Now I just whip it out and do it up. Pilot holes are a breeze with the keyless chuck and the quick release bits. Plus, the next time I have to drill into concrete I will get to test the hammer and hopefully I won't fry my concrete bits.
Cookouts, counciling sessions, some trading, and lots of other stuff. Thanks for reading. More later.
